The digital-signage market has grown impressively in recent years. According to a recent report from research firm IHS, shipments of public displays 26 in. or larger are forecast to approach 3 million units in 2015 and close to 4.5 million units in 2019. While there are a number of technologies that have contributed to this growth, this article will focus on those technologies that are contributing to the evolution and future of direct-view digital signage in particular. (For the purposes of this article, “direct view” refers to digital signage that is not based on projection technology.)
