According to the calendar, summer’s official start comes in late June. For most Americans though, Memorial Day signals the true beginning of summer. Hot dogs will hit the grill and the sun will shine as spring culminates in the warmth of a much-needed three day weekend. We use the holiday as an occasion to look forward to the fun and sun that awaits in June, July, and August. While doing so, it is important to reflect backwards as well. While the gathering of friends and family and the relaxation of a day off is where many minds will initially focus, we need to honor the initial purpose of Memorial Day. The federal holiday is intended to remember those who fought and died serving in the armed forces for the United States, and while everyone should certainly look forward to their picnics and parades, do take a moment to reflect back on those who came before and fought so that others wouldn’t have to.

The team at NanoLumens thanks all current and former service members for their sacrifice, and wishes everyone a happy Memorial Day.
